What are Snap-In Implant Dentures?
- Elevate your dining experience: By securing your denture with dental implants, you can enjoy a broader range of foods and chew with more strength and confidence.
- Permanent solution: Dental implants are not removable like traditional dentures.
- Smile and laugh freely without worrying about your dentures shifting.
- Enjoy increased comfort: Experience less movement, rubbing, and chafing with dentures.
- Boost your nutrition: Improve digestion with dental implants.
- Ideal for those with insufficient bone: Perfect for individuals who may not have enough bone for traditional implants.
- Prevent bone loss with dental implants: Stimulate jawbone growth and prevent bone loss after tooth extraction.
- Minimize gagging: Surgical procedures can reduce the sensation of gagging from dentures.
- Enhanced comfort: Dental implants provide superior comfort by reducing denture movement.
- Improve food tasting experience: Some individuals may choose to modify their dentures to enhance their ability to taste food.
Snap-In Implant Dentures Vs. Traditional Dentures
While traditional dentures are popular for their affordability and appearance in addressing damaged or missing teeth, they may lack in terms of functionality, stability, and chewing ability. Some drawbacks of non-implant dentures include:
- Difficulty chewing: Lower dentures often move around, reducing chewing power to only 10-20% of natural teeth and causing instability.
- Speech challenges: The mobility of lower dentures can make speaking difficult.
- Embarrassment: Fear of dentures becoming loose can hinder eating in public, laughing freely, and engaging in confident conversations.
- Discomfort: Lower dentures may shift and slide, leading to gum irritation and discomfort.
- Poor nutrition: Diminished chewing ability can make it hard to eat a well-rounded diet and properly digest food.
- Bone loss: Tooth extraction can lead to significant bone loss, which can make wearing traditional dentures increasingly difficult over time.
- Gagging: Traditional upper dentures can cause gagging, and trimming them to alleviate this can reduce stability and natural suction.
Snap-In Implant Dentures greatly improve all of these issues.
What is the number of implants required for me?
Upper | A minimum of 4 implants is required for an upper implant denture.
Lower | A minimum of 2 implants is needed for a lower implant denture, but using 3 or 4 implants typically improves retention and stability significantly.
Can I be considered as a candidate?
Almost all patients are eligible! We require a brief consultation to confirm. During this appointment, we will conduct a 3-dimensional scan of your jawbones, your Cary NC dentist will examine your mouth, and they will thoroughly review your medical history with you.
Snap-In Implant Dentures Procedure Timeline
On average, the process usually lasts for approximately 6 months from beginning to end.
1
Procedure
After all remaining teeth have been removed and any necessary oral surgery has been completed, the implants are surgically placed into the jawbone. These implants are then left undisturbed in your jaw for at least 4 months to allow for osseointegration, which is the process of your bone bonding with the implants.
2
Post Op
Please schedule a follow-up appointment for the day after your procedure. During this visit, we will evaluate your mouth, ensure the dentures fit properly, and answer any questions you may have. We are excited to see you at that time.
3
Soft Liners / Soft Re-Fittings
During the healing process, soft liners are utilized as cushions in your denture. They help fill the gaps between your gums and dentures, providing a cushioning effect as you heal. This improves the fit and feel of your dentures, enhancing your overall comfort.
4
Uncovery
This is a minor surgical procedure in which we uncover the implants and attach small healing abutments to shape your gum tissue and prepare you for your snap-in dentures.
5
Attachment Of Implants To Dentures
We will swap out your healing abutments for denture abutments and perform the required procedures to attach your dentures to your implants. This process usually takes about a day to complete, but may occasionally require additional time.
